Pack 802 Camping – French Creek State Park and Valley Forge

Campground Overview

French Creek State Park is located in Elverson, PA and is home to the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site.  The state park hosts both a full service campground as well as numerous group sites.  Pack 802 will be camping at group sites 4-5 during this trip.

Parking:  Parking for the group sites is available along the edge of the field (~200ft walk).

Facilities:  The group site is equipped with pit toilets and a potable water source.  The full service campground (~2 mile drive) is equipped with flush toilets and showers but should only be used by exception.

Sites:  Sites 4-5 are centrally located in a large group camping field.  Additional youth sites are located throughout the park.

Program Overview

Valley Forge Historical Trail:  Scouts have the opportunity to take a step back into revolutionary war history and complete a self-guided tour of the Continental Army’s 1777 winter encampment.  Scouts will work as a group to find points of interest along the trail and discuss answers to trail guide questions.  All participants that complete the historic trail are eligible to receive a Valley Forge Historic Trail award.

Junior Ranger Program:  Scouts will have the opportunity to complete not one, but two junior ranger programs at the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site and during our visit to Valley Forge National Historic Park.  Scouts can get a head start by downloading the junior ranger program guides below:
