Camping Lums Pond State Park
June 22, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - June 24, 2018 @ 12:00 pm EDT
Please join us for an exciting tent camping trip at Lums Pond State Park in Bear, DE June 22-24th. Families can choose to camp one or two nights. Cost is as follows: Scouts $5 (flat rate regardless of camping one or two nights), Adults $10/day, Siblings $5/day. Cost includes the camping site fee and meals. Sign up and payment for camping is due by Friday, June 8th. Please coordinate with Kim or Kelly for payment.
Also note that girls are able to join our Pack as of June 1st so this is a great opportunity for new female scouts to start in on the fun (contact me if you need a scout registration form prior to this event in order to attend as a scout)! It’s also a great time to invite your friends (boys or girls) who have shown an interest in scouting to come out and see what scouting is all about!
Lums Pond State Park is about 35 minutes away just over the DE border and has a primitive camping site for youth and scouting groups. Note that the site has no running water but there are porta-potties (handicapped accessible) on site. There are a few fire rings as well as picnic tables and a large space for tent set up. There are bathrooms within driving distance with warm running water 🙂 We are able to drive right up to our camping area to park and unload.
Park website: http://www.destateparks.com/park/lums-pond/index.asp
The park features over 10 miles in hiking/biking trails, several geocaches within the park, sports fields, frisbee golf course, playgrounds, and opportunities for fishing (bring your gear if you have it) and paddling in the largest freshwater pond in DE. The park does have boat rentals available at a very reasonable cost ($7-$15/hour depending on type of boat).
Dogs are welcome at this park but must be on a leash (not to exceed 6 feet) except in specified off leash areas (there is an off leash area near the primitive campsite). All pets must be licensed, and proof of a rabies vaccination is required.
Additionally, the park also includes an aerial tree-top ropes/zipline course called Go Ape. It’s important to note that we are not permitted to participate in this activity as a scouting event, however we can plan to go on our own as families prior to or at the conclusion of our camping tip. This event needs to be booked on your own by visiting the Go Ape website (see below). Note that we plan to discuss what times would work best for those interested at the Parent Leader planning meeting on Tues. May 22nd.

We completed a site survey to check out the campground and other areas of the park. Click here for photos from the site survey.
