SUMMARY:Pinewood Derby Car Workshop Day #1
DESCRIPTION:The Pack will have leaders and tools available to assist you/your scout in building his/her pinewood derby car on Tuesday\, January 11th.  Please sign up for a time slot if you’d like to attend this workshop for assistance with your scout’s car.  Slots are available for 6-7pm and 7-8pm.   This workshop will be held at Grove Presbyterian Church. \nWhat you need to do:\n1.       Pick a design and sketch it onto your block of wood\n2.       Cut\n3.       Sand\n4.       Paint\, add stickers (optional)\n5.       Add weights to reach 5oz (pack scale available if needed)\n6.       File/Sand axles (optional)\n7.       Install axles/wheels (be careful to just do one time)\nScout store\, Michaels\, AC Moore have supplies. You can use anything for weights. \nPack 802’s Pinewood Derby Rules:\n1.  Build a car using the parts in the BSA “Official Cub Scout Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit” handed out by the Pack.  Buying a pre-made car from the internet is not acceptable.  You may use additional accessories and car components sold at the scout store and local retailers as long as they are labeled with the BSA logo.  You must build a new car each year.\n2.  Car weight cannot exceed 5 ounces when weighed on the Pack scale on race day.  There is no advantage for being less than 5oz so everyone should aim for that by adding weights to car.  Weights can be purchased from various stores including The Scout Store\, Michaels\, Jo-Anns\, etc.\n3.  Minimum bottom clearance (bottom of car to ground) is 3/8″ (including weights) to ensure clearance of the lane guides.\n4.  Gravity is the only propulsion source (no motors or CO2).\n5.  Powdered graphite is the only wheel lubrication allowed – cannot use liquid sources.\n6.  Car design cannot come to a sharp point at the front because it needs to rest on the pinewood derby track pin at start of race.  When it comes to a tip in the front\, it is difficult to maintain it’s position on the track and not slip off the pin which holds the car straight.  A tip this is flattened (straight) will work as long as the car is symmetrical. \n*There are no restrictions on trimming the wood block\, polishing axles (nails)\, lubricating axles (graphite)\, drilling new axle holes or moving wheel base\, sanding wheels\, canting wheels\, running on three wheels\, adding decorations to car\, etc. \nYou don't have permission to view this page.

SUMMARY:Pinewood Derby Race - Grove
DESCRIPTION:Pack 802’s Pinewood Derby will be held on Saturday\, February 26th at Grove Presbyterian Church.   Races will take place by den and then a final top 10 race will occur following the conclusion of all the other races.  Dens will not need to be present for the entire day however if your scout makes the top 10\, you are welcome to attend the final race.  We will be determining the best way to reach families of the top 10 prior to the final race so that you have the opportunity to come back to attend.  Scouts do not have to be present for their cars to race in any of the races since we are impounding the cars in advance but of course we hope you can be present for at least the den races.  Scouts will not be permitted to take their cars home after the den race as they may qualify for the top 10 race which we will not know until ALL dens have raced. \nScheduled race times for derby day: \nAOL den 10am \nWebelos den 10:30am \nBear den 11am \nWolf den 11:30am \nTiger den 12pm \nLion den 12:30pm \nSiblings 1pm \nOutlaws/Adults 1:30pm \nFinal Top 10 race 2:30pm \nPlease arrive no less than 15 minutes before your assigned den time.  Scouts are welcome to watch the den ahead of them.  Times are estimated so please be patient as times may need to be flexible. \nPre-registration to race is required to be completed by Tuesday\, February 8th by using the sign-up below.  All cars racing (scouts\, siblings\, adults) need to be pre-registered on this page. \nAll cars racing (scout\, sibling\, and adults) need to be checked-in on either Tuesday\, February 15th or Tuesday\, February 22nd at Grove during den meeting times.  If you are unable to make one of these dates\, you will need to make prior arrangements to get car(s) checked in.  At check in\, we will be weighing cars to ensure they are not over 5 ounces and applying graphite to wheels if desired. \nWe will be setting up the derby track on Tuesday\, February 15th at Grove so that you can have an optional trial car run prior to the big race.  This allows you to determine any potential issues the car has or if you’d like to modify it prior to turning in by the due date. \nBesides top 3 in each den and top 5 overall\, there will also be voting in various categories for additional awards such as Best in Show\, Best Theme\, and Most Creative\, Most Patriotic\, Most Unique Use of Materials\, Best Paint Design\, and Best Wood Carving.  We will have voting online closer to event date once we have checked in all the cars with photos.  Info to follow via email… \nPack 802’s Pinewood Derby Rules:\n1.

SUMMARY:Steppingstone Museum Clean Up Day - Service Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:Steppingstone Museum is having a clean up day on Saturday\, March 26th from 9am-noon (you do not have to be there the entire time\, come to help when you can).  Scout families are encouraged to attend to help the museum clean up their grounds for opening day.  We have hosted events at Steppingstone in the past and they have been gracious to us with allowing us use of their facilities so this is a great way to give back! \nFrom museum site: Join us on Saturday\, March 26th from 9am-12pm as we prepare the Museum grounds for the 2022 season. Bring your family and friends. This is a great opportunity for groups looking for a volunteer project. All ages and ability levels are welcome. This is a rustic location and we’ll be working outdoors. Please dress comfortably and appropriately for weather and getting dirty. The most needed project on this day will be leaf/brush clean up and removal throughout our 23-acre property. There will also be some flowerbed maintenance. We recommend bringing your own gloves and tools. Suggested tools include rakes\, shovels\, hedge clippers and leaf blowers. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the event. Water will be provided. SUMMARY:Harford District Spring Camporee - Camp Oest
DESCRIPTION:The Harford District Spring Camporee will be held on April 29th – May 1st at Camp Oest.  This year’s theme is “Clash of Cubs”.  Pack 802 has registered to attend and we will be camping at the Navajo Canyon campsite (same site as prior years).  Cost to attend is a flat $10/person rate for the weekend.  The Pack is subsidizing this event so this fee covers the District’s registration fee and all meals to be cooked at our campsite.  Please Sign up by April 12th so we know how to create our patrols. \nYou may choose to camp Friday and Saturday nights\, Friday night\, Saturday night\, or come for just the day events on Saturday.  Please use the sign-up below to attend and please ensure you are choosing the correct option for what days you will be there.  The sign-up helps us plan and purchase the correct amount of food and supplies.  We will also be creating patrols based on how many scouts from each den attend.  Each patrol will create a flag/crest\, cheer\, patrol name\, and skit.  Costumes are also encouraged this year for Scout Spirit! \nNote that siblings are welcome to attend but they will not be able to participate in all the games on Saturday because the games are designed for Kindergarten through 5th grade. \nOn Saturday\, patrols will rotate through various game stations for points.  At several stations\, scouts will build something to then use at the station (sling shots\, catapults\, raingutter regatta boats\, etc).   Scouts will have the opportunity to participate in archery and sling shots (scout-made). \nDraft Schedule for the weekend:Friday:6:00-9:00pm Unit check-in (Dining Hall)9:00pm Leader’s meeting (Dining Hall)Saturday:8:00-8:45am Day check-in (Dining Hall)9:00am Assembly/Opening game (Flag Pole)9:30am-12:00 Scheduled camporee stations12:00 Lunch (Individual Campsites)1:30-2:30pm Scheduled camporee stations2:30-4:30 Open stations/group games7:00pm Campfire program/Award ceremonySunday:10:00am Unit check–out (Dining Hall) \nEvent Info Sheet:  2022 Spring Camporee Info Sheet April May 2022.pdf \nSign-up here:

SUMMARY:Raingutter Regatta - Grove
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Pack Raingutter Regatta event on Tuesday\, May 10th at 6:30pm at Grove.  The Pack will be providing boats in advance once your scout is signed up to attend the event.  Scouts should come with their boat built/painted/designed and ready to sail down the rudder.  The boats come ready to assemble but it is recommended that your scout color and/or paint the boat and sail to make it their own.  Scouts will propel their boat by blowing through a straw to create wind to the sail.  Awards will be given for fastest boats in each den and Pack and there will be voting awards as well. \nNew this year – we will have both a sibling race and an adult race!  There is an option to sign-up below as well.  You can purchase a boat from the Pack for $6 if you choose to race as a sibling or adult. \nPlease sign up to race in this event by Tues. April 26th so that we can create the race sequence ahead of time and ensure all scouts signed up have their boat kits.  The sign-up sheet is below. \n\n
