SUMMARY:Pinewood Derby Race - Grove
DESCRIPTION:Pack 802’s Pinewood Derby will be held on Saturday\, February 26th at Grove Presbyterian Church.   Races will take place by den and then a final top 10 race will occur following the conclusion of all the other races.  Dens will not need to be present for the entire day however if your scout makes the top 10\, you are welcome to attend the final race.  We will be determining the best way to reach families of the top 10 prior to the final race so that you have the opportunity to come back to attend.  Scouts do not have to be present for their cars to race in any of the races since we are impounding the cars in advance but of course we hope you can be present for at least the den races.  Scouts will not be permitted to take their cars home after the den race as they may qualify for the top 10 race which we will not know until ALL dens have raced. \nScheduled race times for derby day: \nAOL den 10am \nWebelos den 10:30am \nBear den 11am \nWolf den 11:30am \nTiger den 12pm \nLion den 12:30pm \nSiblings 1pm \nOutlaws/Adults 1:30pm \nFinal Top 10 race 2:30pm \nPlease arrive no less than 15 minutes before your assigned den time.  Scouts are welcome to watch the den ahead of them.  Times are estimated so please be patient as times may need to be flexible. \nPre-registration to race is required to be completed by Tuesday\, February 8th by using the sign-up below.  All cars racing (scouts\, siblings\, adults) need to be pre-registered on this page. \nAll cars racing (scout\, sibling\, and adults) need to be checked-in on either Tuesday\, February 15th or Tuesday\, February 22nd at Grove during den meeting times.  If you are unable to make one of these dates\, you will need to make prior arrangements to get car(s) checked in.  At check in\, we will be weighing cars to ensure they are not over 5 ounces and applying graphite to wheels if desired. \nWe will be setting up the derby track on Tuesday\, February 15th at Grove so that you can have an optional trial car run prior to the big race.  This allows you to determine any potential issues the car has or if you’d like to modify it prior to turning in by the due date. \nBesides top 3 in each den and top 5 overall\, there will also be voting in various categories for additional awards such as Best in Show\, Best Theme\, and Most Creative\, Most Patriotic\, Most Unique Use of Materials\, Best Paint Design\, and Best Wood Carving.  We will have voting online closer to event date once we have checked in all the cars with photos.  Info to follow via email… \nPack 802’s Pinewood Derby Rules:\n1.  Build a car using the parts in the BSA “Official Cub Scout Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit” handed out by the Pack.  Buying a pre-made car from the internet is not acceptable.  You may use additional accessories and car components sold at the scout store and local retailers as long as they are labeled with the BSA logo.  You must build a new car each year.\n2.  Car weight cannot exceed 5 ounces when weighed on the Pack scale on race day.  There is no advantage for being less than 5oz so everyone should aim for that by adding weights to car.  Weights can be purchased from various stores including The Scout Store\, Michaels\, Jo-Anns\, etc.\n3.  Minimum bottom clearance (bottom of car to ground) is 3/8″ (including weights) to ensure clearance of the lane guides.\n4.  Gravity is the only propulsion source (no motors or CO2).\n5.  Powdered graphite is the only wheel lubrication allowed – cannot use liquid sources.\n6.  Car design cannot come to a sharp point at the front because it needs to rest on the pinewood derby track pin at start of race.  When it comes to a tip in the front\, it is difficult to maintain it’s position on the track and not slip off the pin which holds the car straight.  A tip this is flattened (straight) will work as long as the car is symmetrical. \n*There are no restrictions on trimming the wood block\, polishing axles (nails)\, lubricating axles (graphite)\, drilling new axle holes or moving wheel base\, sanding wheels\, canting wheels\, running on three wheels\, adding decorations to car\, etc.

SUMMARY:Chesapeake District Bengies Drive-In Scout Camp Event
DESCRIPTION:Bengies Drive-In Theatre will be having their 10th Annual Scout Night on Sept 11-12 (option to stay overnight) with tent setup between 4-6pm on Saturday and check out 10am Sunday.   Rain (hurricane) date September 18th – they rarely cancel due to weather and will run the event in “normal” rain conditions. \nRows 1-9 in front of the screen will be designated for the tents and the rows following that will be for those watching from cars (not staying the night).  If you want to attend just the movie portion and not spend the night\, you can just show up on the event date and pay the appropriate fees (see below).  Due to covid restrictions\, you are not allowed to leave your car parking space to view the movies with those in tent sites as could be done in prior years.  The view from cars behind all the tents will not be as good as from the tent setup area. \nBengies requires that our tents not be over 6 feet tall to avoid blocking the views of others from behind. \nRegistration for this event is done online through the Chesapeake District and closes on August 31st but note that registration is limited this year to 300 people or up to 100 tents total.\n \nClick the following link to register and pay for this event:  https://www.baltimorebsa.org/registration/calendardetail.aspx?activitykey=2809064&orgkey=2410&ReturnURL=//www.baltimorebsa.org/app/calendar/month/2410/2021-09-01/2410/0/.   \nAfter you register to attend using the link\, please also fill out the sign-up sheet below so that we can track how many of our scouts are attending this event.  We will then contact the BAC to ensure they put our pack members together on the map for tent setup.  It’s very important however that you sign up officially and pay using the link above because each family registers on their own for this event.  The sign-up below is ONLY to allow our Pack leaders and families know who to expect at the event so that we can look for each other upon arrival. \nNote that at time of registration\, only the $5/person fee is due however it is required that you pay the movie admission fee when you arrive (CASH ONLY). \n\n\nCost: \nCamping one night under the stars is $5/person (includes scout patch)Movie Admission is General Admission $10 per adult\, $5 children 4-10 years old\, Free for children under 4 years old.  CASH is the only payment method accepted at the box office movie admission! The camping fee above is in addition to the movie admission fee which covers 3 movies Saturday night. \n$15 per vehicle food charge to bring food or drink in (including water) or you can pay per item at the Snack Bar.  The Snack Bar does take credit card unlike the box office. \nBengies Tips and Tricks for successful event:  https://www.baltimorebsa.org/document/bengies-tips-tricks/11197 \nSign up here to let Pack leadership know you have registered/paid for this event with Chesapeake District website: \nYou don't have permission to view this page.

SUMMARY:Harford District Spring Camporee - "Gotta Catch 'Em All"
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Harford District “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” Spring Camporee (Pokemon themed) will be held Friday\, April 30th through Sunday\, May 2nd at Broad Creek’s Camp Oest.  This is an event where scouts from multiple packs attend and compete against each other in a series of stations and games.  It’s always a ton of fun!  The cost to attend is a flat rate of $10/person and you have the option to camp Friday\, Saturday\, or both nights along with an option to attend for the day only activities.  The cost to attend is highly subsidized by our Pack since the $10 fee will cover the District’s registration fee (which is $10 per person)\, all meals\, and programming.  Our Pack will have the campsite “Navajo Canyon” which is the same site we’ve had for the past several years (near the bamboo forest which the scouts love!).  Siblings are welcome to attend however depending on age\, they may not be able to participate in all activities.  Please use the sign-up sheet below to indicate how many in your family will be attending and whether you are camping 1 night\, 2 nights\, or coming for the day only.  Please sign-up by Tuesday\, March 30th.  We need to provide District leadership with our Pack roster of those attending well in advance especially since there are increased precautions being taken due to COVID-19.  Once you sign-up\, we will contact you directly to determine easiest way to collect payment (scout account\, square invoice\, meet up at den meeting\, etc). \nYou don't have permission to view this page. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Webelos/AOL hike - Susquehanna State Park Mason-Dixon Trail
DESCRIPTION:Our newest Arrow of Light Scouts will be crossing over to Scouts BSA on Friday\, 19 March 2021 but decided to complete one more event together before moving on to their respective troops.  For their final Pack 802 event\, the Fire Starter patrol has decided to complete a 10+ mile hike that follows a portion of the Mason Dixon Trail and the Deer Creek Trail within Susquehanna State Park.  We will begin the hike at the Glen Cove Marina at 0830 and hope to arrive at the Lapidum boat launch by approximately 1300.  Hikers are encouraged to be dropped off at the start to minimize the amount of shuttling required after the hike.  Additionally\, we will have at least one driver that will be available to pick up a scout along the route if needed. \nOur Webelos scouts that are up for the challenge are welcome to join the outgoing AOL scouts on this adventure. \nStart Address:  3899 Berkley Rd\, Darlington\, MD 21034 \nEnd address:  401 N Stafford Rd\, Havre De Grace\, MD 21078 \nMap Details

SUMMARY:Heroes All Around Us Pack Meeting - Virtual
DESCRIPTION:Pack 802 will have a virtual Pack meeting on Tuesday\, 09 February 2021\, starting at 6:15pm.  We will use this opportunity to share important news with everyone and recognize the tremendous amount of work that our scouts have completed thus far despite the pandemic.  The theme for this meeting will be “Heroes all around us” and we will be discussing some of the amazing things that people are doing within our local community to make our world a better place.  We will have several guest speakers during the event including two retired military service members\, Aberdeen Mayor Patrick McGrady\, and two leading doctors from the University of Maryland medical system that are responsible for local efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.  Each guest speaker will spend a few minutes speaking with the scouts about their background and then will participate in a question and answer session with our scouts.  I plan to consolidate the list of questions ahead of time and assign specific scouts to the questions so we can manage the virtual environment and keep our meeting on schedule.\n\nThis is what I need from everyone in the pack.  Please talk to your children about this event and ask them if they would like to submit a question for any of our guest speakers.  Once you or your scout has come up with one or more questions (yes\, adults may submit questions too)\, please email them to me (jonelam1@yahoo.com) by Tuesday night\, 02 February.  I will be assigning all questions to our older scouts in the Arrow of Light den to streamline the meeting but I really would like to get a good sampling of questions from the whole pack.  Some categorical question areas you may want to prompt your scout with include:  educational background requirements for profession\, additional training requirements or development\, duration of employment\, favorite position held\, favorite memories\, favorite personal accomplishments\, etc.\n\nWe are really privileged that our guests have agreed to meet with us and I am excited for the opportunity to acknowledge the great things these local heroes are doing on a daily basis.   I hope that you and your scouts are able to participate!\n\nYou can find the zoom invite for this meeting in the email sent out on 1/30/21.\n\nBest Regards\,\nJon Elam\nCubmaster\, Pack 802\n443-243-8821
